EMPOWER U  Taking Control of Parkinson’s Disease is  presented by Cleveland Clinic, a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence.

A free live-streamed virtual program

This education-driven, one-day event provides a positive, interactive approach to helping individuals with Parkinson’s disease take control of their disease, maintain their identity and improve their quality of life. 

This event brings together individuals and families of individuals with Parkinson’s disease, caregivers, local Parkinson’s disease organizations and medical professionals from across Northeast Ohio – working alongside each other to improve the quality of care and enhance the level of information available to those affected by Parkinson’s disease.

 

Description

This education-driven, one-day event provides a positive, interactive approach to helping individuals with Parkinson’s disease take control of their disease, maintain their identity and improve their quality of life. The goals of the event will be accomplished through:

• Educational sessions on treatments and updates in Parkinson’s disease
• Interactive sessions that introduce rehab therapies, exercise programs and wellness concepts to fight back against Parkinson's disease 

This event brings together individuals and families of individuals with Parkinson’s disease, caregivers, local Parkinson’s disease organizations and medical professionals from across Northeast Ohio – working alongside each other to improve the quality of care and enhance the level of information available to those affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Directors

Arman T. Askari, MD

Arman Askari, MD co-founded Premier Health Advocates, a leading medical advocacy organization.  As a cardiologist, he served as staff at Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals of Cleveland  and presently is clinical associate professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University Medical School.  Dr. Askari has young-onset Parkinson’s disease. 

 

Hubert Fernandez, MD

Hubert Fernandez, MD is the director of the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Neurological Restoration and an internationally recognized expert in movement disorders.  He has initiated or participated in over 50 clinical trials and has published his findings in over 300 articles and abstracts on Parkinson’s disease, cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, and other movement disorders.

Lisa M. Shulman, MD

Lisa M. Shulman, MD is professor of neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is a specialist in movement and memory disorders and a federally-funded investigator studying the impact of chronic neurologic conditions, including predictors of better outcomes and wellbeing.  Dr. Shulman is author or editor of more than 200 books, chapters and peer-reviewed publications.
