We separated the latest innovations into two categories; innovations for medical/surgical educational purposes & clinical purposes. In this video we’ll explore how medical escape rooms, virtual reality, surgical simulators, game changing patient ID tags and telementoring are innovating healthcare.
A medical escape room is an experience in which a team of players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks to complete a medical goal, such as clinical decision making and case management. When used effectively, these rooms can act as a low-cost, high-impact resource for learners.
VR can be used to ease anxiety before procedures or during imaging, and can also help improve post-op pain. In some cases, VR can be used to reduce the need for sedation or general anesthesia during minor surgical procedures.
Telementoring helps experts guide less experienced healthcare professionals from a remote location through telecommunication technology. Previous research has shown that telementoring can be used effectively and reliably as a surgical training aid. There are several technologies available for telementoring, allowing clinicians to virtually ‘scrub in’ to any operating room from anywhere in the world.
